This renovation was designed to satisfy the brief, which was to capture uninterrupted views and enjoy the advantages of living on the shores of the Derwent River.
The steel and glass cantilevered structure was designed to extend the sunlight hours the original house missed. Expanses of glass windows and deck create a seamless flow between the indoors and outdoors. New timber bay windows to the bedrooms are in sympathy with the original design of the house. The decking boards are a densely grained timber with precisely machined profiles. The fixings are virtually invisible, giving a smooth flowing appearance to the finished surface.
This project was awarded the 2008 HIA Renovation Project $100,000 – $250,000 of the year.
